Archie
Archie is a big fluffy orange and white cat who lives these days in my office and workshop in the pole barn in the southwest corner of the lot. He’s a 100% indoor cat because there is a very busy road with distracted drivers going too fast (I run a regular burial detail for deer, raccoons, opossums, squirrels and an occasional cat from my neighbor’s dairy farm unfortunate enough to unsuccessfully brave the traffic on Parker Rd.).
It’s not so bad in the barn though. Archie has a bright warm perch on the corner of my desk looking east through the oak, cottonwood, hickory, cherry and walnut trees, out to the road and the cornfield and treeline beyond. Archie can often be found watching the birds flitting on and off the tray feeder and the hanging suet block outside the window sill, with a proprietary -and wholly catlike- prurient interest.
The song was recorded on an old all-mahogany Martin 00-17 that I have played for 40 years now. I purchased at Boyd’s music in Burlington, VT at the instigation of my roommate Doug who thought it would not make as much racket as my big 12 string. This song is perfect for a 6 string guitar and I have never thought about it on a 12 string. I guess Doug was right.
