Granola Man Dreams On

Granola Man Dreams On – its time to plan the gardens. Hopefully some of the foxglove in the yard survived another winter. I will know in another week or so when I rake the oak leaves off the various beds under the trees. They used to reseed themselves quite freely.

Unfortunately over the past 10 years we have had increasingly harder rain storms in May and June that have obliterated the poor foxglove seedlings. This is a trivial but noticeable climate change effect.

I have a few spindly foxglove plants I nursed along in my greenhouse this winter, but most of them unfortunately succumbed to a white fly infestation. Grrrr.

I may end up buying some adult foxglove from the plant guy in Dexter in a couple weeks if the beds are missing the usual holdovers. The bees and hummingbirds love it!

The song below seemed kind of apropos for these thoughts…

Enjoy.

Granola Man Dreams On – Hit Single!

Granola Man Dreams On is a duet with another version of me that features a bit of improvisation in the run out with harmonics, which is a little different. There is a section with coruscating arpeggios that was probably inspired by things Ralph Towner did on Spirit Lake, which I think is one of his couple best pieces. Granola Man was recorded in my room in East Aurora, NY in the summer of 1987. Upon reflection, I must have been in a fairly zen state at the time.

I stuck a couple microphones out the window to get the birds on tape and overdubbed the guitars over to the birds’ singing, I tried to follow their lead. They are always in a zen state I guess, so they are a tough act to follow…
