Herald of the Morning 2/9/25

Archie, Bosco & I recorded a video to submit to the 2025 NPR Tiny Desk song contest.
This contest is kind of a throwback to the 1920s: win the contest, become a star, escape the corn patch and Miss Gulch.
I have recorded Herald of the Morning in the past, its a favorite one to play. Towards the very end, I miss my mark and hit a chord a 1/2 step high, but you just have to go with the flow on these things. I have the luxury of owning the copyright so I can take liberties now and then.
This contest provides a lot of entertainment for people who follow all the entries – there are a couple thousand each year scattered across every genre imaginable. It also gives a lot of musicians something to get geeked about during February each year, which is probably a good thing too.
For the record, I played my 1993 mahogany Larrivee J-12 acoustic. Its my go to guitar tuned to the classic open G tuning. It has a very crisp tone, like a maple body guitar, which is IMO attributable to Larivee’s distinctive bracing. The 2 mahogany jumbo Taylors I record with are much deeper sounding instruments with less cut.
